“Hat Trick:” Three Anchors, One Mike
The Club Roasts & Toasts CBS Newsman Bob Schieffer
Washington, D.C. (April 7) – The Xxxxxxxxxx Club (www.xxxx.org) will bestow the “Xxxxxx Award” upon Bob Schieffer, veteran Washington correspondent and host of CBS’ Face the Nation, at its annual award dinner on Wednesday, April 14. The dinner will be held at the new Hotel near L’Enfant Plaza. The evening begins at 6:30 P.M.
To riff on the hockey term that applies when one player scores three goals in a single game, it seems Xxxxxxxxxx has pulled off a “hat trick.” Schieffer will be joined at the mike by NBC Nightly News Anchor Tom Brokaw, CBS Evening News Anchor Dan Rather, and CNN “Inside Politics” Anchor Judy Woodruff, who will emcee the evening.
Other friends and fans of Schieffer will be there too, among them United States Senator Joseph Biden (D-DE); News Analyst and Commentator Gloria Borger; United States Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC); and PBS’ Jim Lehrer. A host of admirers have sent video tributes.
A native of Austin, Texas, Schieffer has covered Washington for CBS News for more than 30 years and has held all four major Washington beats: Pentagon, White House, State Department, and Capitol Hill. He has been a principal anchor for CBS News since 1973 and has won many broadcast news awards, including five Emmys and two Sigma Delta Chi Awards. In 2002, the National Press Foundation awarded him its coveted Broadcaster of the Year award. He is the author of four books, most recently “This Just In: What I Couldn’t Tell You on TV,” published in 2003.
The dinner is co-chaired by Xxxxx Xxxx and Xxx Xxxxxx. Proceeds from the benefit support XXXX education programs and journalism scholarships.
Founded in 1932, the XXXX is one of the nation’s oldest press clubs. Housed in historic headquarters on Washington’s Embassy Row, the XXXX includes members from the journalism, public relations, new media, and publishing professions.
