Founder & Director

Karen James Cody is a writer and editor in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Her first jobs out of college put her inside award-winning graphic design firms. Ever since, though she is a writer to the core, she has an abiding love for awe-inspiring, heartfelt, authentic design and wonderful typography, sourced from many cultures.

 

She founded The Allyson Company in 1991, then rebranded it The Allyson Group after moving to D.C. from the San Francisco Bay Area in 1994. It always offered writing, copyediting, book editing and publishing services, and media relations to small and medium-sized businesses.

 

Back in the day that meant company newsletters, annual reports, and marketing copy. The tools of the trade were the Selectric typewriter, and then the MacIntosh, the IBM, and the DOS clone. Later it became the CEO’s blog and employee intranets.

 

Today, workshare platforms are commonplace and social media pages are well integrated with an organization’s marketing. It all requires content. That’s where we come in.
