Fundraiser for Black Women Playwrights Group To Feature Theatre, Jazz, Art, and Shopping


The 2016 Black Women Playwrights Group fundraiser Friday-Sunday, November 4-6 will offer a moveable feast of jazz, art, and shopping.  The 3-day event features staged readings from playwrights’ recent works from the Steve Allen Project along with an appearance by jazz singer Changamire, both at JACS. Then, weekend-long shopping with India Hicks accessories, Kupendiza handbags, and Dragonfly Vintage collectibles. Some fine art and fabric art will be shown. All participants will donate 10% of proceeds to BWPG.

Please come out and support BWPG, the organization that nurtures and promotes the critical voice of women of color writing for drama.

A MoCo Holiday Party

eWomen Network of Montgomery County’s Holiday Extravaganza at the Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, Maryland on Thursday, November 10, 11-2 p.m. will be a zinger! Kupendiza will be there along with a host of other Montgomery County entrepreneurs.


#AfricaStyle with Tunde Odunlade


Nigerian artist and activist Tunde Odunlade will rock at the center of an evening of  art, music, fun, and inspiration in Reston, Virginia on Sunday, November 6, 2-5 p.m. He is teaming up again with Carolyn Ronis and Healing Through Art, a program of ICEHA (the International Coalition for the Eradication of Hunger and Abuse) which brings healing art programs to survivors of war worldwide. It will be held at Living Threads, 11858 Market Street, Reston, Virginia 20190.

At the African Studies Association 59th Annual Meeting  in D.C. from December 1-3, Tunde Odunlade’s gorgeous batik quilt tapestry titled “Sunshine on the Village Square” will grace the cover of the meeting program. The tapestry tells the story of the city of Ile Ife, the cradle of the Yoruba people of Nigeria. The ASA conference is titled “Imagining Africa at the Center: Bridging Scholarship, Policy, and Representation in African Studies.” It will be at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park hotel. Kupendiza will be showing in the exhibit hall.
